ATTENDING SCHOOL IN THE USA

This is a sample of some of the children who have returned to the United States to finish and/or continue their education

Stephen McCauley of Derry spent the summer of 1984 with john and Graceanne Harrington. Stephen returned to the United states to stay with the Harrington's for five more summers. In 1992 Stephen began his college career at Harvard University studying a degree in Economics.

Michael Mulgrew, eighteen years old, is one of seven children in a west Belfast family. Beginning last year as a junior, Michael has attended St. Albans school for Boys in Washington, D.C. on a full room, board and tuition scholarship. The newspaper, USA Today, rated St.Albans as the top private high school in the country. As a junior, Michael earned better than A average and is now enrolled in several honours courses. Michael has applied to several top U.S colleges, but, as we all know, scholarship money is scarce, especially for foreign students. On weekends, as he did for four summers prior to attending St. Albans, Michael lives with the Mullins family, long active in Project Children.

Claire Margaret Gilmour, from Londonderry, came to the United states with project Children during the summer of 1991. She came back in December of 1991 to attend school. Claire started in Westbrook Primary School, graduated from Macopin Middle School and now attends West Milford high School.

Eddie Gilmartin was 9 years old when he first came to spend the summer with Gene & Sandy McGillycuddy. He is now a 19-year old sophomore at Manhattan College, where he is on scholarship for his outstanding soccer skills. Before entering college, Eddie led his varsity soccer team at Don Bosco Prep to a New Jersey State Championship.

Andrew Dickson spent the summer of 1985 with the Nelson family. Andrew returned to the United states to attend college. He was captain of the Soccer team for four years and led his team to 3 Regional Finals. Andrew made the Dean's list each semester and intends to graduate this May with a degree in English Literature. Andrew plans to pursue his Masters degree and teach English in the future.
